Nathan's really gotten the hang of crawling now, and there's no stopping him! He started off happily crawling around in the rug area in front of the sofas in the back room. But now he's venturing into other rooms, kitchen being his favorite.
He is most attracted to "forbidden" items such as the DVD player and remote control and electric cables! We've temporarily covered up the front of the dvd player and amp with a plastic board but he still manages to climb up and grab onto the top of the board. James has been teaching him "NO!" for weeks now with no luck. Another favorite is the dish washer. We have to really remember to close it whenever it's not being used now. If it's ever left open Nathan would come crawling at lightening speed. Good thing I can usually hear where he's heading since his hands make "tap tap" noises on the tiles and hardwood floors when he's crawling.
Since our house is only one story we don't have to worry about stairs. There is one step at entrance to kitchen and that's one of Nathan's favorite places to play at now. He likes climbing up the step but hasn't quite figured out how to climb down yet.
He's also learned how to slowly lower himself back onto the floor from a standing position by holding onto the furniture with one hand. If he finds something he's interested in on a higher surface, he would usually swipe it onto the ground so he can play with it there with both hands.
The world must be so fascinating through a baby's eyes. These past days Nathan's been most interested in:
- The cords for pulling the blinds in the back room. There's a pendent at the bottom of the cord that makes the whole thing swing back and forth. It's fun watching Nathan learn to grab hold of a moving target.
- Opening and closing cabinets. The bathroom medicine cabinet is his current favorite (luckily he won't be able to reach it himself for a long time). This morning we let him crawl around our bedroom a little
- Turning pages in a book. He just figured this out recently. I still need to do the prep work of separating the next page (not so easy in the board book since the pages seem to stick together more), but I just need to lift it enough to stick a finger in, and Nathan would do the rest of flipping the page over. He loves this and doesn't bother looking at the contents of the books anymore, he just wants to turn the pages as fast as he can. He always uses his left hand... Does that mean he's left handed? I guess time will tell.
- Shadows and reflections. This morning there was a tiny reflection in the ceiling from sunlight reflecting off a puddle of water outside. Nathan was staring at it for the longest time.
- Cars (who wouldn't be?).
