Buddy

We went to visit Nina and Michael yesterday and Nathan was very excited about seeing Buddy again.

Even though it's been almost 3 months since he last saw his doggy friend, he still remembered him and was repeatedly saying "狗狗 Buddy" and "Buddy eat" on our drive up. He dosed off soon after we got on the highway, but as soon as he woke up again, the first thing he mumbled was "Buddy".

And Buddy appeared to have missed Nathan too! He gave him a warm welcome by pretty much licking Nathan's face clean. Nathan kept wanting to kiss Buddy, but Buddy would start running away so Nathan ended up kissing his butt but he was still happy. Nina gave Nathan some treats to feed Buddy and Nathan was good at keeping his hand open and waiting for Buddy to come to him. He'd make a "ew" type funny face when Buddy licked the food off his hand, but immediately ask for "more". We went for a walk later that day and Nathan kept bringing Buddy sand and branches to feed him. I thought it was sweet even though Buddy probably felt like he was being harrassed. Pretty much the whole afternoon Nathan was chasing after Buddy, and in the end poor buddy just wanted to find some peace and quiet.

In general Nathan's got a love for animals (dogs being his favorite). At home he often pretend feed his stuffed animals his own dinner and his play foods. In one of his bedtime books (curious George's birthday party), his favorite scene is when George let all the dogs in to clean up a mess in the kitchen where the birthday cake icing got everywhere. Nathan would pretend to pick up a piece of the cake and feed it to each dog. (this showing affection via feeding is probably the Yang genes in him =P)

James and I hope to get Nathan his own "Buddy" one of these days...
