Nathan had his 2 month checkup last Friday with his new pediatrician Dr. Brown and everything went well. They took his weight and height first:
Head circumference: 15.5 inches / 39.5 cm (35-40%)
Length: 24 inches / 62 cm (90%)
Weight: 13 pounds / 6 kg (75-80%)
So from the percentile numbers it seems Nathan's pretty tall and heavy for his age, but got a small head. James and I were joking maybe we should rethink how much to contribute to his 529 college savings plan...
We also went over the development milestones for 2 months, and come to think of it they're quite impressive:
- Gross motor: Nathan's can hold his head up almost 90 degrees now and can hold it for several seconds and take a look around. He's really enjoying looking at the characters on his "Winnie the Pooh" crib bumper that way.
- Fine motor: Grasping reflex is starting to weaken, but instead of holding a rattle, he's much more interested in sticking his fist in his mouth.
- Language: Lots of coos and ahs, becomes extra vocal when looking at his mobile.
- Vision: His eyes are becoming really good at focusing now. James started drawing smiley faces on the white board for Nathan and he's fascinated by that. He can also see people from all the way across the room now.
- Social: Lots of smiles, especially happy to see me after waking up from a nice long nap.
After the regular checkup, Nathan got the standard set of immunization shots for polio, DTaP, HIB, Hepatitis B, and pneumonia. Two shots in one thigh and one in the other, poor baby. The nurse performed the shots at lightening speed too.
Overall our experience we had at Palo Alto Medical Group (Los Altos location) was very good. The waiting area was very quiet and they even had an aquarium in the kids waiting area. We did have to wait 15 minutes for our appointment, which wasn't ideal. But we liked Dr. Brown a lot and overall it was a much better experience than any we've had at both Camino Medical Group and Stanford.
